In a recent interview with NashvilleBusiness.Net celebrating his selection as a leading African American, Arroyo Consulting CEO Deon Gaines revealed how his passion for education has shaped his overall approach to life and community service.
“Education is one of the most important things that you can give to a young person,” Gaines said. “I chose to align myself with community organizations that help those who didn’t have the same opportunities I had.”
A native of Nashville, Tenn., Gaines has deep roots in the community. He is currently the vice chair of Communities in Schools of Tennessee, a non-profit organization dedicated to keeping young students in school and helping them to succeed. He is also the chairman of the Young Alumni Board of Montgomery Bell Academy where he graduated in 2006.
When asked what he wants his legacy to be, he explained that he wants to be remembered for making the world a better place.
“We all come into this world with no choice of… who our family will be, what our skin color might be; none of that is something that we have control over,” Gaines said. He hopes to impact the world through servant leadership so that people from all different backgrounds can have the opportunity to reach the level of success that they desire.
